The Challenge

As the enterprise mobile environment has continued to evolve, more responsibility is falling to corporate IT to maintain the security and manage the large amounts of information being generated by mobile devices. Heavily regulated industries face greater difficulties as they are tasked with capturing elusive information to maintain compliance inside of FINRA, SOX, HIPPA, and e-discovery requirements. There does not yet seem to be consensus on what each regulation requires in regard to mobile communications. Regulation is especially complicated because voice calls and their recording are distinctly different from SMS/MMS and mobile apps like Whatsapp, Facebook Messenger, and Snapchat. The conversation becomes even more complex when one takes into account the use of mobile device management (MDM) platforms and whether or not users are on a corporate liable or BYOD plan.
