On September 1st, 2017, I celebrated an anniversary with my team. Over some delicious food and champagne, we celebrated eight years of Eclipse being in business, taking care of our clients, and growing as a team. Eight years ago, Todd Hext and I sat on my balcony talking about our values, what we believed was possible, and how we thought we could “eclipse” what we had done in our careers in telecom up to that point.

I am someone who always wants to move forward and is never satisfied; this is just my personality. I appreciate the milestones of anniversaries. I am moved to take a look around and take stock on where we are and what we have accomplished. I can take pride in how we have always stayed true to the principals we founded the company on. Eight years in, we are still a client-first organization. Todd and I talked on day one about a culture where people were constantly learning, growing and love to come to work. We have that, and it’s one of my greatest joys to behold and to see the team continue to grow individually and together. We value leadership and accountability, and we see it every day in how we work with our clients, our partners, and in support of our communities.

I have been thinking a lot about the company as a skyscraper in the making. We’ve built a solid core and continue to add to it with each new team member, client, and partner. As technology has changed rapidly over these eight years from voice and data lines, to mobility, UCaaS, SD-WAN, and cloud it was the solid organizing values that allowed us to add floors to the building, knowing that we could trust our foundation.

I was recently out of town on vacation and received several messages from friends and co-workers that the original Eclipse World HQ at 1000 W Monroe was being demolished to make way for luxury condos. I was saddened by the news and when I returned from vacation, I walked over to see for myself. It was 6am, so I asked the lone worker there if I could walk into the site and take a brick. After much assurance that I wouldn’t be committing any crimes with said brick, he graciously let me walk in and take one. It’s at our new HQ on Jefferson St. and now serves as a strong reminder of both where we came from and where we are going.

When I think of the building blocks of Eclipse that matter most to me, it’s without question the people. The clients who trust us to help them, the partners who deliver on our shared promises, and most of all, our team that brings it all together. On August 28th we had our first, of what I know will be many, five year anniversaries at Eclipse. Kirk Armstrong celebrated five years of learning, leadership, fun, and growth at Eclipse. He typifies the best of what we can be, pushing himself to get better and never losing site of what’s important along the way. With someone like Kirk setting the tone for what it means to be a member to team Eclipse, I am certain that we will continue to grow the right way for years to come. Please join me in congratulating Kirk on this great Milestone.
